53 acres in Rutherford since 1902. The wine came almost a century later.

Building personal relationships is everything for a small grower and producer.

The Morisoli family grew grapes through Prohibition, through drought years and smoke years. Most of what they grow still goes to other producers.

The small amount they keep for themselves, under 4% of production, goes into Morisoli Vineyard wines sold direct on allocation using Offset Commerce. The label launched in 2018, the same year Chris Morisoli came home.

“It’s important to be a caretaker, not just an owner of the land.”

The label is new. The farming isn't.

Morisoli Vineyard grows predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside Zinfandel and the historic Plinio's Block — 115-year-old vines planted by Chris's great-grandfather in the 1910s from cuttings taken at Inglenook. The old block is dry farmed, head trained, cross cultivated. If you'd walked it in the 1930s, Chris says, it would look exactly the same. “Old vines are fad proof. They're unaffected by what's popular this decade or the next.”

Running the brand alongside the farming operation means release windows fall at the worst possible time. Harvest doesn't pause for setting up customer allocations and sending offer emails.

“Our release times fall within the busiest time in the vineyard — harvest timeframe and then the growing season — and I know Pops really wants me on the tractor more than he wants me behind a computer. So having Offset really helps us”.

Before Offset, Chris had a website built by one provider and a commerce platform by another. The two didn't connect well. The Offset Brand Studio rebuilt the site, integrated the commerce layer, and got everything working. The transition was smoother than he expected. “I was worried because of my experiences with other commerce platforms. The switch was perfection and well communicated. The team at Offset helped us set goals and then voraciously stuck to them.”

Farming at Morisoli is personal. So is the commerce.

For a producer making wine in quantities this small, every customer interaction matters. The allocation model suits that — everyone gets a fair shot, the email goes out, you either take it or leave it. But making it feel personal at scale is where the technology either helps or doesn't.

“You have to be able to personally connect with people. Right now, that's what's selling in wine. It's not off of a mailing list. It's not off of a website. It's off of a personal connection. Offset really helps build those personal relationships and keep people enjoying your wine.”

Offset Commerce handles the logistics: customer notes, historic order data, shipping notes. “The attention to detail in note taking, email simplicity, and allocations all takes the guesswork and frustration out of selling wine. Offset innately understands the wine industry — how to best reach customers and how to tie in all aspects of the industry with one simple, powerful system.”

“Farming is a very nuanced thing. Winemaking is a very nuanced thing. Offset really allows for precision in how wine is sold to match that high-touch level of farming and winemaking.”
